Morris High School Campus
New York City, NY
Located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the country, Morris High School has transformed from one large high school into a campus of small schools. Over the course of two years, five small schools opened on the Morris High School Campus: Bronx International, Bronx Leadership II, the High School for Violin and Dance, Morris Academy for Collaborative Studies, and the School for Excellence. In the fall of 2005, the building celebrated a Campus Rededication Ceremony with Morris High School fully phased out and the small schools occupying the entire building.
Morris’ transformation is part of a citywide initiative to raise academic achievement through the conversion of large comprehensive high schools with a history of academic failure into small schools.
